Being the only married-in-real-life character in the show, Henderson had a lot of suggestions to make the show more realistic and relatable for all the wives and mothers. First, she wanted Carol to be a working mom, a role a lot of mothers would appreciate, as there are plenty of viewers who are working mothers. The producers, however, did not approve this role, so she stayed as the housewife we know her to be. Other suggestions she had on the set were not letting Carol wear an apron but a nightgown instead and allowing the kids to talk to her when they’re in the house. But kids not talking to their parents these days is not uncommon.
